REIT (pronounced "reet") = real estate investment trust. It's a bunch of real estate properties packaged into a security, kind of like a high-dividend stock. The dividend reflects the rental income of the properties, and the price of the security reflects any appreciation (or depreciation) in the value of the underlying assets. So a mall REIT (and a pun on mall rat can't be far out of mind) is a REIT backed by a bunch of shopping malls.
