It was an execution by US. It was aware more than anybodyelse that it will create great hiatus between Sunni's and Shias throughout Muslim World. That is what US policy makers intend to achieve. Saddam, like many others,

was trying to bring about unity amongst the Muslims cutting across sectarian divide. This would not suit western game plan. That Sadddam was a ruthless dictator was visible. A backward country needed a firm administration. There is no democracy anywhere in the middle east and in this iraq was no exception. Or Saddam had achieved a modicum of modernity and some democracy and kept the country united But Western policy makers are more ruthless when persuing their foreign policy objectives.
