You read minds now?
Like andie said, Yoshie, I'm a little too old to get interested in anything
simply because it's transgressive. I take an interest because, my own
experiences of sexual marginalization, which didn't feel transgressive but
quite painful and lonely, mean that I care about others who have similar
experiences. It means I have an open heart and mind and am curious about
someone else's life. And if they want to explain it, I listen.
None of the folks I know claim sexual practices lead to liberation or are
subverting dominant power structures. There have been countless blog wars
in Feminist Bloglandia since there is a vocal minority of feminists out
there who are convinced BDSM is a pure instance of patriarchal evil -- the
model of male control of women. (There is a long convoluted explanation as
to why the existence of male subs is not a refutation of that claim) During
these wars, most people who are practitioners want 1. people to leave them
the hell alone and 2. want people to quit speaking from ignorance and
making judgments on them -- including the judgment that they only enjoy it
because they think its "transgressive".
