Well, there's Tennessee Williams' short story, "Hard Candy" (1953), set in a seedy movie theater which was once a sumptuous opera house. There in the dark balcony of the theater men have sex with other men and boys. One of the men, who exchanges candy for sexual favors of poor boys, dies in the theater, of a heart attack, kneeling down before the most beautiful boy he has ever seen. Sex and class, desire and death, in a ruined temple of the American dream. -- Yoshie <http://montages.blogspot.com/> <http://mrzine.org> <http://monthlyreview.org/>
