The hysteria actually has quite a sound basis, though it is not the basis that Morris et sim. claim. As WDK observes, it's silly to argue that Iran would ever make a first-strike against Israel. But an Iranian nuke makes Israel's nukes useless for purposes of bluff and blackmail. With a nuclear-armed antagonist in the region, nobody would worry anymore about the threat of an Israeli first strike -- what dear dead Dick Nixon used to call the "madman theory." Even a handful of Iranian nukes would make Israel's nukes as useless as a fleet of galleys.
