Though one could argue the heroes (and villains) are now mediated by the culture-industry, i.e. they're on the cinema and TV screen. It's astonishing just how fast the process has happened -- the accelerating mediatization of the global periphery and semi-periphery is one of the most profound changes of the 21st century.
