Most of them, including those expressing preference for same-sex love over different-sex love, got married and had children, though, if they could. That was the social obligation, which they -- especially men -- probably didn't consider to be oppression.

Today, gay men are expected not to have sex with women, and lesbians are expected not to have sex with men, unless they are in the closet or have a misfortune of living in a society where the idea of homosexual identity has yet to take root and become widely accepted. Moreover, unlike in many ancient societies, pederasty is prohibited. Both in terms of age and gender, modern society has drawn different lines than ancient ones and lines have hardened in some ways while becoming blurred in other ways. -- Yoshie <http://montages.blogspot.com/> <http://mrzine.org> <http://monthlyreview.org/>
