[The violence is linked to a rally denouncing Saddam Hussein's execution]

Security forces have been deployed in India's infotech hub, Bangalore, a day after a boy died when police fired to stop riots between Hindus and Muslims.

Authorities lifted an overnight curfew, but tension persists in the Shivajinagar and Bharatinagar areas, where the clashes took place.

At least 40 others were hurt in the clashes between Hindu activists and Muslim youth on Sunday.

The police opened fire on Sunday night, killing the 12-year-old boy.

MP Prakash, the home minister of Karnataka state of which Bangalore is the capital, said life in other parts of the city was normal.

Software companies were unaffected by the violence.

'Instigating trouble'

Sunday's unrest was linked to the riot that broke out when 20,000 Muslims demonstrated on Friday against the execution of the former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein.

"Some forces are out to instigate trouble. Action will be taken against them irrespective of political affiliations," Mr Prakash said.

The protest rally against Saddam Hussein's execution was organised by Congress party leaders.

Muslims blamed Hindu organisations for targeting them during Sunday's march by a right-wing Hindu group - the Rashtriya Swayemsevak Sangh.

Bangalore is home to over 1,500 information technology companies and call centres, including a host of multinationals such as IBM, Dell, Hewlett Packard and Microsoft.
