Almost all evolutionary explanations are just so stories -- this is in fact a standard creationist objection to evolution.
It's also true that human sexuality is a mess. However, if sociobiology applies anywhere, it applies to sex. SOME such stories have got to be true, even if we can't be sure which ones.
