At an rate, the article Doug points at was an article written by a journalist based on a press release, just like the rest at the dev-news link *I* just posted, above. You're comparing technical *journalism* ostensibly written for the broad reading public to in-house technical writing -- another beastie. Related, but another beastie. Whether technical writing for MS or Linux, the general public would find both equally difficult to understand.
