[In an earlier thread Doug questioned the economic viability of the
open-source model. The mySQL database is ubiquitous; anyone can
download and install it from numerous repositories, no strings
attached. Yet the Swedish company has on the order of 10,000 paying
customers.]

MySQL to go public
MySQL AB plans to go public in 2007. As Marten Mickos, who heads the
Swedish firm with headquarters in Uppsala and Cupertino, California
told heise open, the IPO will take place in the US. In 2006, the
Swedes posted record sales for the second year in a row, though no
specific figures have been published.
