I fail to see how this is different from anyone else? Is it that hipsters
are allegedly better educated, well-informed people and that should
correlate positively to political engagement? How is it possible not to
laugh at politics when you're glued to Daily Show/Colbert Report and both
parties are so laughably out of touch with most of the country. I think that
as much as anything else, this hipster strawman is laughing at the
singlemindedness with which so many folks pursue politics, most of whom are
at the level of moveon.org and daily kos. I laughed hard at the hipsters who
got involved last election cycle to elect...wait for it...Bob Casey Jr.!
But with all things, it's not universally true that hipsters don't care. I see this as another version of 'the kids these days...' more than an incisive look into the mind of youth in america. hipster moment: cue the wipers! -- j t. r
