[lbo-talk] The Impeachment movement gets a second wind

The impeachment movement seems suddenly to have gotten a second wind, and to have suddenly lurched from the fringe the semi-mainstream. In the last 2 days, I've gotten appeals from the Nation (below) and MoveOn.org <http://pol.moveon.org/subpoena/> (forwarded by a friend who follows them closely and said it was a very unusual for MoveOn.org -- and he interpreted it to mean there must be support for it among mainstream Democrats).

The big difference is that rather than impeaching Bush, this is about impeaching Cheney. It seems to have taken fire from last week's five day detailed WashPost series (and in particular Cheney's amazing contention that he's his own branch of government and thus literally beyond the law in the sense of oversight).

I got the impression that the general sense of the list (and certainly of the list-Mom) was that the earlier movement was a quixotic drain of energy. So I was curious -- is there more enthusiasm for this second wave?

Dear EmailNation Subscriber,

Dick Cheney has been a destructive force on the checks and balances of American government for more than six years. He has subverted long-standing processes, procedures, protocols and laws to lead us into the tragedy in Iraq, and is now seeking to do the same with Iran. (Both countries, mind you, that he did business with while CEO of Halliburton.)

As the Washington Post's recent four-part series on the most influential and powerful man ever to hold the office of vice president showed, Cheney has usurped his Cabinet colleagues to make himself the dominant voice on tax and spending policy; secretly steered some of the Bush administration's most important environmental decisions and purposely manipulated the intelligence process to deceive Congress by fabricating a threat of Iraqi weapons of mass destruction to justify the use of the United States Armed Forces against the nation of Iraq.

That's why there's a growing national movement to support H. Res 333, the articles of Impeachment against Dick Cheney. The bill is already endorsed by 14 members of Congress.

Sign the petition calling for the bill's passage, watch a new video by Robert Greenwald's Brave New Films for more evidence of why Cheney deserves immediate impeachment and check out impeachchenecy.org for info on the impeachment campaign. http://lists.thenation.com/t?ctl=A07E:483058D757B60ADB9382AF50F2366C48
