It occurred to me just now (while thinking of quite other things) that
two lines from "The Red Flag" -- but with a change of verb tense and of
an adverb -- are of use in the present period. The original:

It waved above our infant might
When all ahead seemed dark as night. . . .

Revision for 2007:

It waves above our infant might
While all ahead seems dark as night. . . .
