to search for fairness in a patently unjust system is futile.

In India just now great debate is on on the subject of ongoing forcible land acquisition for so called SEZs. They are talking of paying "fair" market prize to the owner of the land. No market value of land is substitute for its ever appreciating future value. They are also not feeling responsible for the peasant once he losses his land and think money paid is due compensation. Peasants have revolted but governments are insensitive and are using police force. Even the government is acquiring land in the name of serving "public interest" and handing over as real estate to the business community. In China not even due legal process was applied; they were just evicted.

The leader of the Left front government in the State of West Bengal claims he is operating within a larger capitalist state and hence cannot apply socialistic standard in his own state! He needs to be told to re read Marx. It is possible to apply Marxists approach to land acquisition even within this democratic system to achieve some semblance of "fairness" Marx was a great humanist first and that is what lead him to take up his studies.
