Iran hangs rapist http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp?page=2007\07\27\story_27-7-2007_pg4_19
TEHRAN: Iran on Thursday hanged in public a man convicted on two counts of rape in the northern city of Sari, the Iranian state-run television website reported.
The report added that the man had been arrested as part nationwide crackdown on thugs. His identity was not given. The hanging brought to at least 139 the number of executions carried out in the Islamic republic so far this year, most of them by hanging and often in public. At least 177 people were executed in 2006, according to Amnesty International, making Iran the most prolific applier of the death penalty in the world after China. Capital offences in Iran include murder, rape, armed robbery, apostasy, blasphemy, serious drug trafficking, repeated sodomy, adultery or prostitution, treason and espionage.
