I know that FDR was opposed to perpetuating the British empire. Do you
think he just wanted to substitute an American one? That sounds more like
his cousin Theodore, who was indeed a warmonger's warmonger.
In any event, FDR benefited from having Eleanor as a consciousness raiser,
and, obviously, she benefited from having access to his power. An odd
couple to be sure ... but an effective one.
