'"Also arrested was Marco Cappato, a member of the European Parliament (MEP) from Italy. Kicked by fascists as he spoke to journalists; Cappato began shouting, "Where are the police? Why don't you protect us?"'

Noone with any first-hand experience of the Moscow police would ever utter such a naive statement. :)

There was a long interview with Elton John and one of the Pet Shop Boys a couple of months ago in the Russian edition of Rolling Stone in which they were toying with the idea of coming to Moscow and doing some kind of gay pride concert. I doubt anything will come of that but who knows.

Speaking of gay icons, Mark Almond of Soft Cell fame practically lives in St. Petersburg. He did an album of covers of Soviet-era songs a couple of years ago. Behold this article: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/3240081.stm

Hey here's his latest concert: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mLf1-vuDCI&mode=related&search=
