Nhan Dan Online - The Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) and the Intel Semiconductor Vietnam on June 4 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote the use of information and communications technology (ICT) within the country's power sector.

Under the agreement, which was signed in Hanoi, Intel will become an advisor to EVN, aiding the latter in outlining plans and strategic roadmaps for the application of software solutions inside the sector. It will also run an IT day each quarter for EVN to be appraised of the latest in IT solutions from around the world.

Co-operation will focus on implementing the "purchase programme for EVN staff" with the aim of improving computer knowledge for EVN's 80,000 staff. Speaking at the signing ceremony, Vice General Director of EVN, Duong Quang Thanh stressed that promotion of IT use is an ambitious intention of the sector in improving the working efficiency for its staff and the co-operation with Intel was expected to bring good results.

In a further step, Intel will help EVN carry out a feasibility study on assembly line computer production for the EVN EBOK brand and then develop into a domestic computer manufacturer.

Director of the EVN Information Technology Centre Pham Duong Minh spoke about the benefits that EVN will gain from this strategic co-operation pact, specifically the use of state-of-the-art solutions and technologies developed by Intel.

Vice President and manager of the Intel's Digital Enterprise Group, Thomas M Kilroy said that the MoU initiated long term co-operation between EVN and Intel.

EVN plans to provide about 10,000 laptops for its staff from now to the end of 2007 to facilitate them at offices or during their field trips.
