The Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (Vinashin) delivered a 53,000-tonne cargo ship, the largest ever built in Vietnam, to its UK owner in northern Quang Ninh province on June 19.
The Florence was the first among 27 vessels built under the contract between the UK's Graig Investment Limited and two Vinashin subsidiaries, the Quang Ninh-based Ha Long Shipyard and the Haiphong-based Nam Trieu Shipyard. These 53,000-tonne cargo ships were designed by Denmark's Carl Bro group and built under supervision of Norwegian registration agency DNV.
On the afternoon of the same day, Nam Trieu Shipyard delivered the second 53,000-tonne cargo ship, the NT01 Graiglas, to Graig Investment Limited. According to Minister of Transport and Communication Ho Nghia Dung, the building of the two vessels is the most outstanding event of the shipbuilding industry in 2007, strengthening Vinashin's position in the world.
