Nhan Dan - The Lam Son Joint Operation Company has announced it has discovered oil at the Thang Long Structure, lot 02/97, Cuu Long basin, offshore Vietnam.
The drilling of the Thang Long - 2X well was started on May 5, 2007 and reached a total depth of 2,367 metres 20 days later. Initial results have shown that the oil field has a capacity of producing 5,000 barrel of crude oil and 38 million cubic metres of gas a day.
The Lam Son JOC is joint venture between the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group, PetroVietnam, and Malaysia's Petronas Carigali Overseas Sdn.Bhd. Up to date, the JOC has carried out drilling at three wells: Thang Long - 1X, Thang Long - 2X and Ho Xam - 1X at the contracted lot and discovered oil at all these three wells.
