MUMBAI (Reuters) - Satyam Computer Services Ltd., India's fourth-biggest software services exporter, said on Thursday it would open a new software development centre in China as it ramps up operations in the fast-growing market.
New York-listed Satyam said its 2,500-seat centre in the Nanjing Software Park will be its largest development facility outside India and its biggest campus.
The new campus will be operational within the next 12 months and is expected to ramp up significantly, Satyam said.
The company set up its first development centre in China in Shanghai in 2002 and also has facilities in Beijing, Dalian and Guangzhou.
The Hyderabad-based Satyam has said it would increase its staff strength in China to 3,000 over a period of three years, from more than 400 now. "China has played a strategic role as a nearshore delivery centre for Asia-Pacific customers and a de-risking option to North American and European client base," Satyam said in a statement.
Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. and Infosys Technologies Ltd., Satyam's bigger rivals, also have operations in China, lured by cheaper costs and big business potential in one of the fastest-growing economies.
