But Brooks is using it in the old, quirky American (as in USian) sense of neoliberalism - what was known long ago as the Atari Democrats. Socially liberal, high-tech loving, welfare-disliking, a la Gary Hart. Alex Cockburn once described it as a masthead in search of a movement - the masthead being that of The Washington Monthly.

Tom Frank has signed on to the new New Republic? He did blurb Peter Beinart's book on how we need a return to the old Scoop Jackson Dems, so I shouldn't be surprised, but it's sad to hear that.
