Well, Basaev and Khattab wanted a united Islamic North Caucasus, which is why they invaded Dagestan. I don't know if Dudaev's ideological development had progressed to that point by the time he was killed -- Maskhadov's had not. Khattab was not a Chechen nationalist (duh, he was an Arab, albeit one with Chechen roots extremely far in the past).
