Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Khiem on March 14 assured businesspeople in Chicago of Vietnam's open policy which offers the most favourable conditions to all investors in the country.
Chicago , Illinois , renowned as the industrial, financial and commercial centre in the US 's mid-western region, was the venue of the second leg of the official visit to the US by the Deputy PM, who is also Foreign Minister. His visit to Chicago was busy with meetings with the Mayor of Chicago, and representatives from giant companies in the region, such as Boeing, Motorola, and a tour of the University of Chicago and the Chicago Merchantile Exchange (CME).
Deputy PM Khiem also addressed the Chicago Council where he recalled the lessons drawn from Vietnam-US relations in the past.
The Vietnamese leader stated that the two countries' relations have been fully normalised and are now entering a new stage of development which needed increased cooperation, especially in the fields of economy, science, education and training.
The Mayor of Chicago said he looks forward to welcoming more high-ranking Vietnamese leaders and expressed his hopes for Vietnam to soon open consulates in US localities.
In meetings with the visiting Vietnamese Deputy PM, representatives of the above-mentioned companies showed their interests in Vietnam , which, in their words, is a potential market.
CME leaders expressed willingness to cooperate with Vietnam in expertise training and promised to study a possibility of listing Vietnamese shares on CME.
Boeing and Motorola officials confirmed their determination to increase investment in as well as cooperation with Vietnam in a wide range of areas. Meanwhile, leaders from the University of Chicago discussed a possibility for establishing an educational cooperation programme, and expressed willingness to receive Vietnamese students to study at the university. Later in the day, Khiem and his entourage left for Washington D.C. to continue his visit of the US. (VNA)
