Or got hit by a car while drunk. Or rammed theior car into a wall while drunk. Or were stabbed to death in a drunken argument. Or fell out of the window while drunk. Or passed out in subzero weather while drunk. In any case, alcohol is usually involved. The situation is similar in Scotland, which not coincidentally has the about the same average male life expectancy as Russia (which is 58).

I read recently, however, that average life expectancy (both genders) in Moscow specifically has increased 9 years since 1995. That is amazing if true.
