Hagel isn't electable tho. Most anti-war D's aren't willing to vote for
another R for president, both for accelerating partisanism and because they
very accurately know what even a Iraq maveric R like Hagel would mean for
all other policy across the board, from choice to enviro to labor. R's on
the other hand have been telling pollsters they support the president on
Iraq, and to the extent they don't, it's not that they want an anti-war R,
but rather someone (like Guiliani) who will be critical of its conduct
without pulling the troops out. Also, his name recognition outside of
political junkie-dom is sub-Dodd.
And... you know Arab-Americans are a miniscule slice of the electorate,
right?
If he had a shot, and wanted to run, he would've already adjusted his
positions to the vileness all the other mainstream candidates share.
Cretinous imperialism is the sine non qua of national level mainstream
politics here.
Alas, to be a pragmatic radical back in the Jacksonian era (Jesse, not
Andrew). Not that he was successful, or of true principle, but at least I
would've had something to do all day besides housecall workers.
