Although I don't have any hard figures, I would be willing to bet that her readership in India is marginal at best. To my mind she is just too facile and glib to count as a serious writer - either of fiction or of polemic (her 'Algebra of Infinite Justice' being a particularly vile example of platudinous casuistry in the second category). Her target market is the middle-aged white leftist and his brown cousin - she feeds them exactly the kind of woolly-headed garbage that confirms their pre-conceived idea of "India" and leaves them with that warm fuzzy feeling of having heard it from the "horse's mouth".
