I hope the laborers succeed at their campaign to rebuild density in residential construction, the tar heel packers in north carolina win a vote finally, and teamsters breaks fedex.

==============

Until the law that protects Fedex [world's first passenger free airline!] is changed, the Teamsters will be pissin' in the wind, as they have been since the early 90's. I say that as a former employee who damned near got fired doing organizing for/with the UAW in the 90's and saw a lot of co-workers/friends lose their jobs doing the same.

http://www.fedex.com/us/about/news/pressreleases/archives/pressrelease397770.html?link=4 MEMPHIS, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 11, 1997--Federal Express Corporation said today it has been informed that the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) has ruled that FedEx and all of its employees continue to be covered by the Railway Labor Act (RLA). The ruling is consistent with every court and administrative agency decision on this issue since FedEx began operations over 25 years ago.

The RLA was enacted over 60 years ago to insure that the nation's vital transportation systems were not interrupted by local labor disputes. Congress' intent was that integrated express companies like FedEx should not be subjected to disruption due to the essential part they play in meeting critical transportation needs. As noted in the NLRB's decision, Congress last year specifically confirmed that FedEx "is an express company within the meaning of the Railway Labor Act."
