I largely agree with you, except I'd add that unions have "about 30 years" to decline to nothingness, according to Doug, whereas we are starting from square one, if not less than zero. :-0

In any case, it is futile to look to Andy Stern and SEIU as an institution (no matter how many individual leftists like Jim are found in it) to lead a struggle for socialized medicine. They are not just uninterested in it -- they are opposed to it. Organized labor in the USA is not just opposed to socialism -- it's opposed to social democracy, not just abroad (through the Solidarity Center), but here as well. It's like the Democratic Party. Criticizing them for not doing for what they are opposed to is a wrong way to go, for it perpetuates an illusion. -- Yoshie
