The Intel Products Vietnam started the construction of its chipset assembly and test facility in Ho Chi Minh City High-tech Park on March 28. The US $1 billion plant, the seventh and largest of its kind in the Intel assembly and test global network, is built on an area of 46 hectares and is expected to operate in mid 2009, providing employment for up to 4,000 locals.

At the ground breaking ceremony, Chairman Le Hoang Quan of the municipal People's Committee spoke highly of Intel investment operation in Ho Chi Minh City, which has helped promote the city's high-tech development and economic growth.

"The construction will create a positive impact in terms of foreign investment in Vietnam. Intel's increasing investment proves the fact that investment environment in Vietnam is becoming rapidly improving better along with the country's higher prestige in the process of international economic integration," he said.

The chairman affirmed that the city authorities would continue providing favourable conditions for Intel and other investors to expand business. Brian Krzanich, Vice President of Intel Group, said that the reason for Intel to choose Vietnam to invest is very clear because Vietnam has a contingent of young and dynamic labourers, an improving education system, good infrastructure and a progress-seeking government.

It is planned that the plant will be operational by mid 2009 with a yearly estimated turnover of US $5 billion and will provide over 4,000 jobs to local people. The event marked Intel's ten years of operation in Vietnam.
