Actually I think that andie is exaggerating the lack of Marxists within the academy. At least at my school (UCI), the history department still has a strong emphasis on historical materialism and their is a fairly orthodox Maoist in the sociology department. There is also a fair amount of discussion of Marxism within the English and Comp Lit departments. I had the same experience at the University of Minnesota as well. Robert Wood
