Crick (not Watson) speculated that, conjecturally, it was "possible" that the chemical components for life on Earth could have originated with intelligent beings elsewhere, but he did not claim that he had scientific evidence for any such contention. The gist of Crick's speculations in this respect indeed was effectively to say (as he acknowledged explicitly to those with whom he discussed this sort of Stuff) is exactly that - that it was speculation, not doing science in any meaningful (scientific) manner.
