According to Arthur Koestler (himself a Hungarian Jew) proto-Hungarian Jews and Magyars were closely related in the Khazar realms and together migrated to Hungary when the Mongols destroyed Khazaria.

It would have been accurate to write "The Nazis had to actually overthrow the fascist Horthy regime and impose the nazi Arrow Cross regime to enforce the deportation of the Hungarian Jews."
