How so? Both were Yale grads, with Bush having the higher grade-point average. The contrast must be grounded not in actual educational differences but between different manifestations of the same educational status.

Leaving Bush & Kerry out of it, the educational divide is primarily just another of the many divisions _within_ the u.s. working class.

The problem with sociological definitions of class is that they treat class as an identity which is supposed to tell you something about the person so classified. But class is a social relation, really only relevant to understanding the dynamics of an entire social order. There are many many (mostly pseudo-) identities within the working class, but the class itself does not indicate anything about identity.
