Mattick Jr had quite an analysis. Years ago he told Liza & me that Bernie Sanders couldn't be a socialist because there was no working class in Vermont. Pressed on this strange claim he declared that since there was no manufacturing in Vermont, there could be no working class. At a Bertell Ollman seminar after the Asian crisis, Mattick Jr gave a paper that wanted to explain the crisis without any reference to states or financial markets but only through the underlying causes - the falling rate of profit, of course. Why then, whey there, why that kind of crisis? Not interesting.
