I hate Baltimore. It's like a Milwaukee sandwiched between two far more interesting cities.
But then my experiences with Baltimore have mostly involved poor weather, that douchebag district known as the "Inner Harbor," the overrated Camden Yards and far too many visits to the world's worst Greyhound terminal.
[WS:] That only scratches the surface. Actually, Inner Harbor is not that bad, just a tourist trap, like many other in this country. But at least there are people in the streets there, and you can get there by public transit.
Stadiums - Camden Yards and the M&T Bank stadium (football) suck big time. They were sold to the public as a solution to Baltimore economic problems, but they just siphon off public resources, created gigantic traffic jams, and their supposed job-creation is limited to a few low paying service jobs - as the owners and the overpaid celebrity players do not live in the city. But that problem is not unique to Baltimore - all sports facilities across the countries are basically porkers living off public subsidies.
Far worse are impassibility by any means of transportation, shortage of public transit, sprawl, boarded up houses, house flippers, dearth of shopping, general ugliness created by ubiquitous parking garages, crumbling infrastructure, and rude drivers who do not think traffic rules, as well as rules of basic civility, apply to them.
As to the Greyhound terminal, it went from bad to worse. The old one was dilapidated but at least accessible by public transit, the new one has been moved to the outskirts of the city and is accessible mainly by car. But the rude and unhelpful staff remains about the same. But then Greyhound sucks all along - it is arguable one of the worst, least efficient services in this country.
