profound thanks to Doug for checking the Nesbitt analysis and (equally
important to me)  the emotional response.  Disagreeing with Wojtek, I
think Doug's anti racism hits the ideology where it is both weakest and
(paradoxically enough) where it derives its propagandistic power in
American culture.
