This NYT article contains three errors of omission, one extremely glaring: 1.) The dominant "right-wing forces" cited were explicitly *fascist*. 2.) they were not at the outset "loyal to Gen. Francisco Franco" because

Franco was only third in the fascist military hierarchy, behind

Sanjurjo and (?)Mulloy--he became caudillo only after both had died.

and most important

3.) Hitler and Mussolini go unmentioned, even though they were involved

from the inception of the plot--the decisive fascist force was

the Spanish colonial army in Morocco and the Canaries, which had

no way to reach Spain against the loyalist Navy without the

German and Italian airplanes that ferried them to the mainland.
