But it wasn't just about splitting the difference, was it? Or have I misremembered? It was more about keeping a foot in both camps -- keeping mutually antipathetic constituencies in your tent. IIRC. That was the old '92 miracle -- We can have our cake! And eat it too -- eat it raw, in fact, and make it like being eaten.
