Maybe so, maybe so. But this does not prevent the fact that political humor in the SU and eastern europe was 1) brilliant and 2) very funny. To wit:

An envoy arrives breathless at the Kremlin and breaks into Stalin's office!

"Comrade Stalin" he shouts "Great news. The split is over. Trotsky has acknowledged that you are right. He sent a telegram. I'll read it; it's just wonderful:

'You were right; I was wrong. You can have socialist revolution in one country while the rest of the world is in chains. Trotsky.'

"Hang on there a minute," Stalin says, "Let me see that." He grabs the telegram and says "Just as I thought. No change at all. Let me read the telegram to you: 'You were right? I was wrong? You can have socialist revolution in one country while the rest of the world is in chains?'
