In the country side of Japan where I live, I use optical fiber without any limitation whatsoever. For ¥6000 a month. With a $1=¥120 rate that puts my internet access at $50.

The fiber "pipe" is made available by NTT for ¥5000 a month, and the provider charges me ¥12000 a year for the access.

I have the possibility to change of telephone pipe too (a service provided by NTT), from coper to fiber and with that I'd save money on _all_ my comunications (paid to NTT), the price would be roughly equivalent to Telephone on IP services provided by other companies.

I can't imagine how many jobs are _not_ created in the US because the pipe providers are beeing so greedy instead of investing in their future. The US is loosing a huge amount of ground vs the EU and Asian country because of them.

In French, we have a word for that: ils veulent le beurre, l'argent du beurre et la crémière...
