I saw on BookTV that even the right wing libertarian Mark Skousen 
thinks that Marx's distinction between barter and monetary 
circulation is fundamental, one of the great economic ideas. Yet he 
had very little idea of the depth of Marx's thinking. But then so too 
have most Marxists had little grasp of the profound dialectics at 
work--excepting of course Evald Ilyenkov who drank himself to death 
in 1979.

Perhaps Chris Doss knows more about him?
