Iran is more democratic than Saudi Arabia or Egypt - and which is the U.S. more likely to bomb? Venezuela is highly democratic and the U.S. would love nothing more than to shoot Chavez and reverse his policies. Etc. The U.S. doesn't give a damn about democracy if the electorate is making decisions it doesn't like.

I doubt that democracy makes all that much difference to the EU. They're just as money-grubbing as Americans, only not quite as good at it.
