[lbo-talk] Targeting Empire?

I have to say that the more I've read in Islam, the more I think it is irreconcilable with democracy - certainly not without a massive theological revision.

It's not so much what the Prophet (pbuh) reveals, it's the completeness and simultaneity's of the revelation. Shariah, like all the Quran, is an affirmation, clarification and offering of detail on the Bible. Shariah in about the rules of behavior and it is more humanist than some sections of Leviticus, certainly.

The problem the Quran creates is that it is a revelation and theology in one, and so very easy to appeal to with an eye to "Originalism". It's hard to say that modern Salafism is not a recurring theme. And you don't have that convenient "render unto Caesar" bit stated by as late an authority (although Jesus is, obviously, a Muslim prophet as well).

PBU you all,

boddi
