Here's my approach with this "choice": I put about 5% of my pay in whatever money market account they offer. (This used to be "safe"; now, I'm not so sure.) Most companies I worked for matched that. I figured that was my profit. I also didn't pay taxes on that 5% and that was a bit of profit too.

Now this is a very peasant, uninformed attitude, but, it works for me.

It's unfortunate, CD's are not a choice.

If I were forced to choose between stock funds and bond funds, I'm not sure I'd take the deal at all. But if there were matching funds, I'd have to think long and hard about it.
