Right. Marx's is a theory of _political_economy. And from "Contribution to Critique of Hegel's Philosophy of Right ", through the _The Manifesto of the Communist Party_ ( a political party), "The Critique of the Gotha Program" ( a political program), Engels' _The Origin of the Family, Private Property and the *State*_, and Lenin's _The *State* and Revolution_, Marxism is an integrated discussion of politics, economy (classes) and society. The theory preserves the best of liberal idealism, and goes further.

Of course, actual efforts to practice this theory have fallen short, but no less than the actual efforts to practice liberal ideals have fallen short.

In some venues, it might be the best tactic to call ourselves "liberals", maybe "liberals - plus" and "secret in" commie ideas, but on this list, why not declare openly for the best we know ?

Interesting on Friedman. I recall you saying he was for paying the poor a decent income too, or something like that - negative tax on the poor ? Go figure.

You can call that a political right if you want, there are arguments to be made for doing so, although I don't call it political but social and economic myself; but whatever terms you use we agree that a right to a job or income is a real right. Btw, Milton Friedman thought it was, if not a right, then sound policy.
