Postel demands that the left say what Shirin Ebadi among others do. Well,
not only would it be the simplest thing to find people on the left doing so*,
but some of us have been working with people like Ebadi on Iran:

http://www.socialistworker.co.uk/article.php?article_id=8982

http://www.socialistworker.co.uk/article.php?article_id=8313

We naturally work best on the issues over which we have some chance of making
the most difference, namely in terms of reducing the threat to Iranians from our
government.

Indeed, Postel acknowledges this: "The number one thing we can — and must — do
here is to prevent the U.S.
government from taking any military action against Iran.
That is the
Mother of All Issues right now."

*Postel is smug and moralistic, which is curious. He himself knows that the following
have been involved in campaigning on behalf of Iranian dissidents:

Kwame Anthony Appiah, Zygmunt Bauman,
Dipesh Chakrabarty, Noam Chomsky, J.M. Coetzee,
Juan Cole, Umberto Eco, Jürgen Habermas, Leszek
                                        Kolakowski, Ernesto Laclau,
Chantal Mouffe, Martha Nussbaum,
Orhan Pamuk, Charles Taylor, Tzvetan Todorov,
Immanuel
Wallerstein, Cornel West, Howard Zinn, and Slavoj ˇi˛ek.

These are some of the left-wing intellectuals who have supported Ramin Jahanbegloo, who was
interviewed by Postel before he was banged up by the government.

Get connected - Use your Hotmail address to sign into Windows Live Messenger now. Connect now!
