Just this past weekend I found a copy of Purdy's "Eustace Chisholm 
and the Works" with the Paul Cadmus painting "Playground" on the 
cover.  I'm not a collector, but I like finding copies of books I 
read a long time ago with the cover the book had at the time, 
especially when it's such a wonderful cover as the Cadmus 
painting.  Anyway, what a great book.

The painting depicts UMWA miners executing scabs after the
scabs had agreed to vacate Herrin.  Although the union miners
initially agreed to march the scabs from the local mine to
the train station - the march ended at the local cemetery
and the carnage ensued.
