This is a myth. You can spend $40/day at Rock Center, but there's ~140,000 street parking spots available in Manhattan along with _hundreds_ of private lots that are way cheaper than $40/day. Plus there's all those govt workers who get free parking.

You can get monthly parking adjacent to midtown for $200.

The vast majority (70+%?) of trips made to NYC's CBD are made by non-autos.
